The Jamaica Household Workers Association is a non-government,
non-partisan, voluntary organization that was established in 1991 to represent
the needs and interest of household workers.
The aim of the Association is to:
Ø Ensure fair and just working conditions and wages for household
workers
Ø Protect the rights of women who provide domestic
service
Ø Provide skills training in household
Management
Ø To empower its members in achieving their goals on the job and
personal
The association evolved out of a series of training and workshops
that were sponsored by the Bureau of Women’s Affairs in 1990. Over 175 household workers attended, many of
whom came together to form this independent Association of household
workers.
